The District of Columbia has adopted new, more challenging learning standards designed to encourage the highest achievement of every student, by defining the knowledge, concepts, and skills that students should acquire at each grade level. The new learning standards in reading/English Language Arts (ELA), mathematics, physical education, health, and the arts are among the best in the nation and are the cornerstone of the school system’s commitment to provide an excellent education to each student.
